Hallo,
am 2. Juli 2013 jährt sich der Geburtstag von John Allen, Wizzard von Monterey und Erbauer der legendären G&D, zum 100st Mal.
Der John Allen Memorial day (JAM) wird möglicherweise schon in wenigen Jahren dem amerikanischen Independence Day am 4. Juli ernsthaft Konkurrenz machen.
Dies liegt auch daran, dass es an diesem Tag zum Frühstück jede Menge Pfannkuchen und Marmelade (jam) gibt. Der Schwerpunkt liegt natürlich auf der Marmelade.
Die Frage ist natürlich, ob das Ganze in Deutschland auch nur den Hauch einer Chance hat.
Allerdings sind wir gegenüber den Vereinigten Staaten ja auch einige Stunden zurück und deshalb können die Pfannkuchen egal ob mit Marmelade oder anderen Leckereien ohne Probleme auch abends verspeist werden.
Ich habe mir auf jeden Fall vorgenommen, am Dienstag die Strecken rund um die Giant Canyons meines Kellergeschosses intensiv zu befahren und möglichst wenig von der leckeren Marmelade auf den Modulen zu verteilen.

July 2nd, 2013 marks one hundred years since the birth of John Allen, the
creator of the world-famous Gorre and Daphetid Railroad. Here's a simple way
that you, along with your fellow model railroaders all around the world, should
mark this occasion:
The Official John Allen Memorial Breakfast:
On the morning of July 2nd, Model Railroaders everywhere are asked to salute John Allen, the Wizard of Monterey.
Make a few flapjacks (pancakes) with strawberry JAM and pour yourself coffee or tea... Raise your mug in a salute.
If you can't do flapjacks, then toast or another substitute will do just as
well. JAM is the essential thing!
Why jam? JAM = John Allen Memorial. Strawberry jam would be most appropriate
as that is the main field crop in the Monterey/Carmel area, where John lived.
While you're at it, consider spending at least a few minutes that day taking
another look at those fabulous photos John made of his amazing model railroad!
